04.06.2018 – New Testament: Luke 10.41–42
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 10.25–42 on April 6, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Jesus went to the home of Martha and Mary for a meal, but Martha gave all her attention to serving and Mary gave all her attention to Jesus. Luke says that Martha was distracted with her much serving. Here is how Jesus described her actions that day,
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10.41–42).
What are distractions? In this case, distractions represented her worry and trouble about many things. That kept her away from Jesus. Serving Jesus would have been a remarkable experience, but listening to Him teach would have far surpassed serving Him.
Questions:
- Do you serve others?
- Do you consider learning from Jesus valuable time or wasted time?
