06.03.2018 – New Testament: John 13.34
To read the Bible in a year, read John 13.18–38 on June 3, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
As Jesus finished His last evening with His disciples, He taught them of love. However, they had known of love in the Law of Moses, which urged the Israelites to love God and to love their neighbors as they loved themselves. However, Jesus took that second one and upped it greatly:
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (John 13.34).
The new standard was to love one another as the Lord Jesus had loved them! Ponder for the rest of the day, just how Jesus loved them and how He loved you. Then go and love your brethren in Christ in that manner.
Questions:
- Do you love your brethren as Jesus has loved you?
- What do you need to do to so love as Jesus loved?
