07.14.2018 – Old Testament: Psa 14.7
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 13–16 on July 14, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Psalm 14 begins by speaking of atheists and what is wrong with their hearts and that while they deny the existence of God, He watches them and sees what kind of lives they lead. The Psalm then ends in this manner:
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.
All the previous words of the Psalm speak of the atheist, but then the psalmist pleads for the salvation of the Lord. The psalmist, David, wanted the Lord to show the atheist wrong, for the Lord would work for His people and restore them and they would rejoice.
I see the same thing with the church. Atheism has grown and become aggressive and we want our God to work on behalf of the church and to restore her to the glory of past generations.
- Do you talk with atheists?
- Do you ridicule atheists or do you try to persuade them?
