Is there a difference between an evangelist and a preacher?

Acts Bible Background

07.14.2018 – New Testament: Acts 18.11

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 18 on July 14, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

A preacher declares the word of God and an evangelist brings a message of good news. That sounds the same to me. However, most people have gotten the idea that an evangelist is one who travels constantly. Paul was an evangelist, but he stayed at least a year and a half in Corinth:

And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them (Acts 18.11).

If he had stayed double that amount of time, would he have ceased to be an evangelist? An evangelist brings the message of heaven to people and he can continue to do that endlessly in one location.

Questions:

  • What do you do in the church?
  • Do you support the teaching of God’s word? How do you do it?
