The irreplaceable priest

Psalms Bible Background

08.18.2018 – Old Testament: Psa 110.4

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 109–111 on August 18, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

David wrote Psalm 110, speaking of Jesus. Of the priesthood of Jesus, David said,

The LORD has sworn
And will not relent,
“You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
(Psalm 110.4)

Every other priest in the world from the beginning until now, has died and a replacement filled in that vacant spot, but not with our priest. From the moment He became our priest on the cross, He has continued to serve as our priest, because He was not merely man. As God, He lives forever.

Questions:

  • Why do we need a priest?
  • Who was Melchizedek?
