Making a promise or vow requires so little effort that we often make them without much thought to keeping them. However, God knows what we have vowed and promised and He expects us to keep our word, just as He does:
Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands? For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God (Ecclesiastes 5.6–7).
Therefore, pay attention to what you say, especially when you make a vow or a promise. God heard what you said. He waits to see whether you will do as you have promised.
- Do you have any unfulfilled promises that you have made?
- What is keeping you from fulfilling them?
