What are the good things that our weekly contribution does? You can probably think of the people it helps and the bills that are paid and the evangelism that it supports and so forth. Those are all things in which someone receives the money. However, consider this also:
For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you (2 Corinthians 9.12–14).
In addition to supplying the needs of the saints, Paul said that the weekly contribution caused many thanksgivings to God, glorification of God, and brethren to long for one another. Those are spiritual blessings and those are the real blessings that God wants to see.
- Do you think of the spiritual things that happen when you contribute every week into the church treasury?
- Do you give every week?
