Most Christians do many works, but there exists one work that most men do not want to do. Here is that good work:
This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work (1 Timothy 3.1).
The bishop, overseer, elder, pastor, all speaking of the same work, the Bible labels as a good work. Yet, do we see it that way? Most men will not tackle this good work.
Questions:
- Why do most men shy away from the eldership?
- What can you do to encourage more men to consider this work?

On the first question, we have made the eldership into something that it was not intended to be. My 2 cents.

Maybe it has changed for the better since I left the US, but it seems elders were more the authoritative decision-makers than the shepherds of the flock. As such, they come in for much more scrutiny and criticism, as power games were played in the congregations. Who would want that kind of job?
