Remember what the apostles said

Jude Bible Background

12.09.2018 – New Testament: Jude 17–18

To read the Bible in a year, read Jude on December 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2018

By Don Ruhl

Peter warned of the arrival of false teachers in Second Peter 2, and the Book of Jude shows that they had already arrived in the first century. However, none of this should have surprised the Christians of the first century, for as Jude wrote:

But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts (Jude 17–18).

Jesus and the Holy Spirit revealed to the apostles that false teachers were on the way and the apostles in turn warned the early church. Then it happened. It happened just as the apostles had revealed. We do well to remember what the apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ taught.

Questions:

  • Do you think the red letters, in a red letter Bible, are more important than the rest of the Bible?
  • Would you equate the words of the apostles with the words of Jesus?
