Dealing treacherously with the Lord

Hosea Bible Background

12.10.2018 – Old Testament: Hos 6.7–10

To read the Bible in a year, read Hosea 5–8 on December 10, In the year of our Lord Christ 2018

By Don Ruhl

Israel, just like the men of the world, sometimes did not realize what they were doing or how badly they treated the Lord, as He Himself said:

“But like men they transgressed the covenant;
There they dealt treacherously with Me.
Gilead is a city of evildoers
And defiled with blood.
As bands of robbers lie in wait for a man,
So the company of priests murder on the way to Shechem;
Surely they commit lewdness.
I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel:
There is the harlotry of Ephraim;
Israel is defiled.”
(Hosea 6.7–10)

Israel suffered badly at the hands of the Assyrians for treating the Lord treacherously, because they were evildoers, robbed, murdered His priests, committed lewdness, and worshiped idols. I recommend that you treat the Lord well, and not do what Israel did.

Questions:

  • How do you treat the Lord?
  • How do you treat His people?
