01.08.2019 – Old Testament: Gen 21.12–13
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 20–22 on January 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Peter said that Sarah called Abraham “lord” (1 Peter 3.6), yet, in Genesis the Bible also tells us that God told Abraham to listen to his wife:
But God said to Abraham, “Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called. Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, because he is your seed” (Genesis 21.12–13).
“Lord” as used with man does not mean that such a person knows everything, otherwise, he would not have to listen to anyone, but in this case the Bible shows that Sarah knew best and Abraham was to take her advice.
Questions:
- Can you take advice from other people?
- Can you give advice without it sounding as though you are a dictator?
