Following Jesus and the troubles of life

Matthew Bible Background

01.09.2019 – New Testament: Matt 8.23–24

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 8 on January 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

It seems that most people expect to have trouble-free lives as followers of Jesus Christ, but the Bible does not make such a promise, in fact, watch what happened once during His ministry:

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep (Matthew 8.23–24).

Did you see what happened? The disciples followed Jesus and they all got into a boat with Him and a storm came upon them, and the winds were so strong that the waves covered the boat! That does not sound like a trouble-free life to me. Does it to you? People die in such situations.

Questions:

  • Have you thought before that as a disciple of Christ you should not have troubles?
  • What do you think now after reading what happened to the disciples in that boat?
