01.09.2019 – Old Testament: Gen 24.9
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 23–24 on January 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

We do not have to make vows and promises, but if we do, we have to do exactly as we have sworn to do and not let anything keep us from fulfilling what we said we would do. A good example of that was one of Abraham’s servants, whom he had sent to get a wife for Isaac. The Bible says:
So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter (Genesis 24.9).
The manner in which the servant swore to Abraham was the custom of the day. The servant swore to do what Abraham told him to do, and the rest of Genesis 24 shows the single-minded way in which the servant kept his promise to Abraham. May we be as determined when we make promises.
- Do you think before making promises?
- Do you do everything you can to make sure that you keep your promises?
