01.12.2019 – New Testament: Matt 10.23
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 10.1–23 on January 12, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Before Jesus sent the apostles out on the Great Commission, He sent them out on a limited commission within the borders of Israel. Here are some of the instructions that He gave them:
“When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes” (Matthew 10.23).
He knew that persecution awaited them. However, He did not want them to take up arms against those people, for by persecution those people would have already declared themselves unworthy of the Gospel because of their persecution against the messengers of the Gospel. Therefore, He just wanted them to move on and find others who were receptive to the Message.
- What do you do when persecution arises against you?
- Have you ever persecuted someone?
