Naphtali

Genesis Bible Background

01.21.2019 – Old Testament: Gen 49.21

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 49–50 on January 21, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

Naphtali means, “My struggle,” but in time the tribe that would descend from him did beautiful things, as Jacob prophesied:

“Naphtali is a deer let loose;
He uses beautiful words.”
(Genesis 49.21, NKJV; NIV and ESV have “Fawns” instead of “Words”)

His mother may have struggled, but she gave to the world someone who brought forth beautiful words, like a deer let loose.

Questions:

  • With what have you struggled in life?
  • Has anything good come from it yet?
