02.04.2019 – Old Testament: Exo 34.25–26
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 34–36 on February 4, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
The Lord was not arbitrary, although he certainly could have been if He wanted to be, but when it came to sacrifices, the children of Israel needed to do precisely what He wanted. On one occasion He said:
“You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leaven, nor shall the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover be left until morning. The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk” (Exodus 34.25–26).
Some of those things prefigured what He would do in Christ. Thus, the sacrifice had to resemble the Christ in particular ways, such as keeping leaven (often representative of sin), from blood. Offering the firstfruits reminded Israel of the source of all their blessings. I recommend that you do the same with your income. Remember the Lord first. Determine first what you want to give to Him, then take care of your bills.
- Do you give the Lord the firstfruits or the leftovers?
- How would your life be if He gave to you as you give to Him?
