Anointing was a big job

Exodus Bible Background

02.06.2019 – Old Testament: Exo 40.9–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 39–40 on February 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

By Don Ruhl

Once the tabernacle and everything associated with it had been completed, all of it had to be anointed. The Lord gave Moses these instructions:

“And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it; and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy. You shall anoint the altar of the burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar. The altar shall be most holy. And you shall anoint the laver and its base, and consecrate it” (Exodus 40.9–11).

If you picture in your mind everything that Moses had to anoint, just considering the size of the tabernacle for one thing, you can see that it was a big job and would have taken some time to accomplish.

Nevertheless, it was necessary and so Moses did as the Lord told him to do.

Questions:

  • Do you know what the name “Christ” or “Christian” means?
  • What was done for us that we might be anointed?
