02.16.2019 – Old Testament: Lev 23.9–14
To read the Bible in a year, read Leviticus 22–23 on February 16, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

A man once told me that God gets the leftovers! The man was often contrary to me but in so doing he undoubtedly offended God. No, God gives us everything that we have. Therefore, He gets the firstfruits. He had said to Israel:
And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it…You shall eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings” (Leviticus 23.9–14).
God did not even want them to eat bread or parched grain or fresh grain until they had made their offering. This would remind them of the source of all their blessings, and remembering such keeps anyone levelheaded.
- Should Christians give the firstfruits of their income to the Lord?
- In what ways does the Lord bless us?
