03.03.2019 – Old Testament: Num 31.25–27
To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 30–31 on March 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
The Lord recognizes the work of those who fight in battle, but He also knows that those back home have a part. Therefore, when Israel fought Midian, the Lord gave them these instructions:
Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Count up the plunder that was taken—of man and beast—you and Eleazar the priest and the chief fathers of the congregation; and divide the plunder into two parts, between those who took part in the war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation” (Numbers 31.25–27).
The number of those who stayed in the camp would outnumber those who went to war. Therefore, each soldier received more. Also, as the text continues you will discover that the congregation had to give more to the Lord than the soldiers did.
Questions:
- What important roles do the folks at home play?
- Who else in society should be honored for their work in addition to warriors?
