Israel’s possession east of the Jordan

Joshua Bible Background

03.24.2019 – Old Testament: Jos 13.8–12

To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 11–13 on March 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

By Don Ruhl

Half of the half tribe of Manasseh, and the tribes of Reuben and Gad wanted land on the east side of the Jordan, and they received it, but only because they kept their promise of leading the rest of the tribes into the Land of Canaan that those tribes might gain their inheritance:

With the other half-tribe the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses had given them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the LORD had given them: from Aroer which is on the bank of the River Arnon…all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants; for Moses had defeated and cast out these.

– Joshua 13.8–12

Those tribes did as they promised and the Lord through Moses did as He promised. That is how it is with the Lord. Trust and obey Him and see how your life goes.

  • Do you look for excuses not to keep your promises?
  • Do you still expect God to bless you?
