As Ezra (the writer of the Books of the Chronicles), wrote the genealogy of Judah, he noted how a valley got its name,

The sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel were Hathath, and Meonothai who begot Ophrah. Seraiah begot Joab the father of Ge Harashim, for they were craftsmen. The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh were Iru, Elah, and Naam. The son of Elah was Kenaz. The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel. The sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. And Mered’s wife bore Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.

– 1 Chronicles 4.13–17

Ezra referred to Joab as the father of Ge Harashim, which means Valley of Craftsmen, explaining that the men there were craftsmen. Apparently many craftsmen dwelt there or they were very good, leading to the name of the valley.

Do you like to watch craftsmen? I do. They do amazing things, because the Creator of all things gave them their ability. What can you do? Whatever it is, the Lord gave you the ability. Now glorify Him with it.

Questions:

  • What do you do with your skills?
  • How can you honor God with what you do?
