07.27.2019 – Old Testament: Psa 51.7–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 50–52 on July 27, In the year of our Lord 2019
By Don Ruhl
David committed adultery with a woman, and then had her husband killed. The Lord saw it all, telling David so through a prophet. When David realized that the Lord knew of his sin, he fell into deep grief, and he begged for the Lord’s forgiveness,
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
– Psalm 51.7–9
David’s guilt stung him badly, and the baby that resulted from his union with Bathsheba died. David was broken, for he had sinned against the God he loved. God responded by putting away David’s sin, and he once again served the Lord God.
- What do you do when you have sinned?
- Do you speak to God of your sins?
