New Testament: Matt 13.57
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 13.33–58 on January 18, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
You would think that every place on earth would honor a prophet of God. However, it tends to be that the prophet’s hometown does not honor him. After Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus, rejected Him, He said:
So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”
– Matthew 13.57
Even today, the town of Nazareth does not make a big deal about the fact that the Son of God, the Creator, grew up in their town! There are, of course, exceptions to this rule. Just look at the family of Jesus. His Mother and eventually at least two of His brothers followed Him.
- Why does a hometown generally not honor great religious leaders of their own?
- How do you treat boys who grew up to be men of God?
