Old Testament: Exo 16.19–20
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 16–18 on January 28, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020

Have you questioned why Adam and Eve had to eat that fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? The Lord gave them such simple instructions not to eat from that tree, but they did it anyway. How about when the God of heaven fed the children of Israel with bread from heaven, and Moses instructed them not to leave any of it until morning:
And Moses said, “Let no one leave any of it till morning.” Notwithstanding they did not heed Moses. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.
– Exodus 16.19–20
How much simpler could Moses have made the instructions? Do not leave any until morning. There are many complicated instructions to follow in life, but that was not one of them. Nevertheless, some of them did leave part of the manna until the next morning, and then they had to put up with the worms and stench the next day.
- Do you find yourself not doing something that is simple?
- Why do we sometimes want things to be complicated?
