Israel did not complete the job, and paid for it

Joshua Bible Background

Old Testament: Jos 13.13

To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 11–13 on March 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020

As the Book of Joshua listed the dividing of the Land of Canaan for the children of Israel, the Bible points out:

Nevertheless the children of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maachathites, but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day.

– Joshua 13.13

Later, Psalm 106.34–39 notes how this became a serious problem for the children of Israel, because they adopted the practices of the Canaanites and of the other peoples in the land, leading to multiple judgments against Israel from God.

When the Lord gives us a job to do, we have to see it all the way through, otherwise we will suffer for our incomplete work later.

Questions:

  • Do you complete everything that you start out to do for the Lord?
  • If not, what keeps you from finishing?
