New Testament: Luke 3.32–33
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 3 on March 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
We can claim that Jesus descended from the man Judah, thus making Him from the tribe of Judah, but Luke demonstrates it for us. After showing that Jesus descended from David, Luke continued:
…the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah…
– Luke 3.32–33
To say that Jesus descended from David is to say that Jesus is of the tribe of Judah. However, Luke showed the genealogy of Jesus from David’s father Jesse to Judah himself. You see, the Jews kept meticulous records of every Jew’s genealogy. If Jesus had not descended from David and from Judah, the Jewish leaders would have used that to deny that Jesus was the promised Messiah.
This is one of many proofs that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah, the Savior of the world.
- What do you believe about Jesus?
- What are other proofs or evidence that Jesus is the Messiah?
