Old Testament: 2Sa 1.27
To read the Bible in a year, read Second Samuel 1–3 on April 21, In the year of our Lord 2020
By Don Ruhl
King Saul tried repeatedly to kill David, but Saul never succeeded. Nevertheless, David refused to return evil toward Saul, and when Saul and his son Jonathan, David’s best friend, died, David wrote a beautiful lament about both of them. He ended the lament with these words:
“How the mighty have fallen,
And the weapons of war perished!”
– 2 Samuel 1.27
David called Saul mighty! The man threw spears at David and hunted him with an army, but David called Saul mighty! Amazing! David knew that the Lord had placed Saul in office and David respected what the Lord did. How our generation needs to learn the same thing. You may not like the president or the previous one or the next one, but they get into position because the Lord put them there. Be careful what you say about them and what you do against them.
- Do you believe that the Lord rules in your nation?
- Does He rule in your life?
