New Testament: Luke 17.22–24
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 17.20–37 on April 20, In the year of our Lord 2020
By Don Ruhl
Jesus warned His apostles that the time would come when they would desire to see one of His days, but He then warned them not to let that desire open them up to deception,
Then He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. And they will say to you, ‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ Do not go after them or follow them. For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day.”
– Luke 17.22–24
Evidently times of persecution would get so bad, that they would want to see Jesus returning, as He has promised to do, but that desire could be so strong that they might listen to someone who claims that Jesus had already returned.
However, when the Second Coming of Christ happens, no one will need to have it announced to him, for His return will be like the lightning, visible to all.
- Have you ever fallen for a prediction that Jesus would return by a certain date?
- If so, what did you learn from the obvious failed prediction?
