New Testament: Luke 23.35
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 23.27–38 on May 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
What do we do when there is a car wreck? We look at it. What did the people do when they saw Jesus being crucified? They looked:
And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”
– Luke 23.35
They stood looking, but the rulers did more, they mocked Jesus, for in their minds His apparent inability to save Himself proved that He was not the Christ. However, they had failed to understand the mission of the Christ, not even realizing that they were mocking the most important event in history that was designed to save them from their sin!
Questions:
- What does “christ” mean?
- Why did Jesus have to die?
