We know that Jesus loved—and still loves—everyone. However, the Bible says:

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

– John 11.5

For John to point that out shows Jesus had a special relationship with the three siblings. Jesus was human and so developed closer relationships with certain people, even as He did with Peter, James, and John, but especially with John.

Yet, Jesus never allowed His closer friendships to interfere with His love for all people. As His disciples, that is what we have to do.

Questions:

  • Who was the sister not named in this passage?
  • Have you become a clique with your friends?
