Old Testament: 2Ch 5.10
To read the Bible in a year, read Second Chronicles 4–6 on June 1, In the year of our Lord 2020
By Don Ruhl
After the temple had been finished, it was time for the ark of the Lord to enter the temple and to take up residence in the Holy of Holies. The writer of Second Chronicles said:
Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they had come out of Egypt.
– 2 Chronicles 5.10
Israel had kept those tablets for hundreds of years, because the tablets stayed in the ark, and no one was to open the ark and take anything out of it. All of the temple and its contents, including the ark and the tablets on which God had written the Ten Commandments, perished when Babylon attacked Jerusalem and destroyed the temple.
- Do you picture in your mind how the temple must have looked and how God’s handwriting must have looked?
- Do you learn from Israel’s mistakes?
