When Paul reached Jerusalem, James informed him that some of the Jews who had not yet accepted Jesus as the Messiah, were spreading false information about him. In response Paul took a vow:
Then Paul took the men, and the next day, having been purified with them, entered the temple to announce the expiration of the days of purification, at which time an offering should be made for each one of them.
– Acts 21.26
He worked with them as far as he could to show them that he preached what was consistent with the Law and the entirety of the Hebrew Bible, hoping that they would be more open to him.
