New Testament: Rev 5.2–4
To read the Bible in a year, read Revelation 5 on December 14, In the year of our Lord 2020
By Don Ruhl
The Lord transported John to the throne room of God Almighty, as shown in Revelation 4. The next chapter focuses upon a scroll that John saw in the right hand of God, and the scroll had seven seals on it. This happened next,
Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”
– Revelation 5.2
The angel spoke loudly, for everyone in heaven needed to hear his question. This scroll was closed up, but God wanted it opened. Who was worthy to approach God and take the scroll from Him and then proceed to open the seals and then the scroll?
And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.
– Revelation 5.3–4
If no one could absolutely be found, then the Book of Revelation would have ended here. However, as John wept over the prospect of the scroll remaining closed, someone had prevailed to open the scroll.
- Do you know the answer to the angel’s question?
- Why do you think this was such an emotional thing for John?
