Old Testament: Amos 5.10
To read the Bible in a year, read Amos 4–6 on December 15, In the year of our Lord Christ 2020
By Don Ruhl
Someone hated you and you could not figure out why. You thought deeply, scanning your past interactions with that person and you could not come up with anything that you had done that would prompt hatred.
However, you may have directly or indirectly rebuked that person, and he will not forget it and will not learn from it, but now has you in his aim. As the Lord said to Amos:
They hate the one who rebukes in the gate,
And they abhor the one who speaks uprightly.
– Amos 5.10
You may not even have rebuked the guy, but you speak what is upright, and he does not like it because it exposes his evil behavior.
Therefore, do not fret yourself over the matter, but remember that the prophets, the Lord Jesus Christ, the apostles, and all preachers of righteousness have had this experience. You are in good company.
- What can you do about someone who hates you?
- Have you hated someone for speaking the truth?
