When people refuse to humble themselves before God

Old Testament: Exo 10.3–7

To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 9–10 on January 25, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

Pharaoh had already witnessed seven nation-wide plagues upon Egypt, yet, he refused to submit to the God of the Hebrews. Moses and Aaron appeared before Pharaoh again:

So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me. Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory…” Then Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”

– Exodus 10.3–7

Pharaoh had to face the consequences of his arrogance before his Creator. Choosing to submit to the God of heaven or refusing to do so, is not like choosing which restaurant you want to patronize. Refusing our Creator brings serious consequences.

  • Have you humbled yourself before God?
  • Are you doing what God wants you to do?
