Keep the questions simple

New Testament: Matt 19.16–17

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 19.16–30 on January 28, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

A young man wanted the greatest thing, eternal life, and asked Jesus how to get it:

Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

– Matthew 19.16–17

Good question. He should have left it right there, and gone and done what Jesus said to do. Jesus gave a good answer. The young man should have been satisfied with it. What more could a person want to do? However, the young man asked two more questions, and he did not like the answer he received for the third one.

Keeping the commandments of God surpasses everything we can do. Leave it at that and do not seek more. Do what God says and leave it to Him to bless you for it.

  • How strongly do you want eternal life?
  • Are you willing to change your life to have eternal life?
