Old Testament: Exo 19.20
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 19–21 on January 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
If you read the Scriptures often, there is the temptation to run over things quickly and to miss simple truths that do not have any decoration in the text. Consider this example:
Then the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
– Exodus 19.20
Did you catch what the Bible said? You may have because I isolated it, but in a page full of text, we might read over that thoughtlessly and miss what spectacular things the Bible revealed in those two sentences.
The Lord, the God of heaven, the Creator of the universe, came down upon a certain mountain on earth. Imagine that happening.
Then, in the hearing of all Israel, God calls a certain man to come up into the mountain, and everyone watches his ascent up that mountain to be with God!
Think on that for the rest of the day, that God would condescend to come to the earth and do such things. Then think about what he did when he came and lived here for over 33 years.
Questions:
- How do you picture in your mind Moses and God together on that mountain?
- Do you realize that one day you shall be in the presence of God?
