New Testament: Matt 21.4–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 21.1–22 on January 31, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
Jesus had the disciples fetch a certain donkey and colt. Matthew told us that this was in fulfillment of prophecy and then he quoted the prophecy:
All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:
“Tell the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
– Matthew 21.4–5
The prophecy was that the King of Zion would come sitting on a donkey.
There were many such prophecies, yet, many of the people who knew the Scriptures did not recognize Jesus as the Messiah. That always makes me wonder whether we miss things. We read our Bibles and hear countless sermons and classes. That might make us think that we know everything and that we could not possibly miss anything.
Yet, why would we differ from those Jews who rejected Jesus? Many accepted who He was and many did not.
Questions:
- What would you think about your King riding upon a donkey?
- Are you open to instruction and correction?
