Old Testament: Exo 34.27–28
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 34–36 on February 4, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
For the present, we can only dream of spending time with the Lord in the way that Moses did:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write these words, for according to the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
– Exodus 34.27–28
The Lord sustained Moses as he went without food or water for over a month! While with the Lord, Moses wrote the words of the covenant that the Lord made with Israel, and God Himself also wrote on tablets of stone the words of the covenant, in particular the Ten Commandments. What an experience that must have been. Meditate on that for the next several days.
Also, the Ten Commandments were part of the covenant that the Lord made with Israel and not with the rest of the world.
Questions:
- How often do you fast?
- What happens when you spend time with the Lord?
