Sacrifices according to the Lord’s instructions

Old Testament: Lev 3.12–16

To read the Bible in a year, read Leviticus 1–3 on February 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

If an Israelite wanted to make a peace offering of a goat to the Lord there were certain instructions to follow:

“And if his offering is a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD. He shall lay his hand on its head and kill it before the tabernacle of meeting; and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle its blood all around on the altar. Then he shall offer from it his offering, as an offering made by fire to the LORD. The fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails, the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the flanks, and the fatty lobe attached to the liver above the kidneys, he shall remove; and the priest shall burn them on the altar as food, an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma; all the fat is the LORD’S.”

– Leviticus 3.12–16

We give gifts to people according to what we believe they will like, but making an offering to God is not the same. He is a God. He is the God. However, we do not know Him fully as we ought to know Him. Therefore, He had to instruct the children of Israel on how sacrifices were to be made.

Although we do not offer these kinds of sacrifices, we still make sacrifices to Him and for Him, and there are ways to do that according to His will.

  • What sacrifices do we offer to the Lord now?
  • What sacrifices has God made for us?
