Do not use vain things to worship God

Old Testament: Deu 12.2–4

To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 11–13 on March 10, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

God knows that we are impressionable. Therefore, when Israel was to enter the Land of Canaan, He wanted them to destroy all idols and anything associated with idolatry that they might not be tempted to use those things in worshiping God:

“You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations which you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. And you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and burn their wooden images with fire; you shall cut down the carved images of their gods and destroy their names from that place. You shall not worship the LORD your God with such things.”

– Deuteronomy 12.2–4

That way they would not see those things and think that they could be used in worshiping Jehovah God. If they saw those things, they might have been tempted to adopt those things in worshiping God, and thus pervert the true worship of the one true God.
