New Testament: Acts 6.2
To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 6 on June 23, In the year of our Lord 2021
By Don Ruhl
The church grew rapidly in Jerusalem in the beginning. A growing pain soon manifested itself as a part of the church experienced neglect. While the church had 12 preachers, they had to stay focused and could not be distracted with this particular problem that someone else could handle:
Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.”
– Acts 6.2
They asked for a certain quality of men to take over the issue, which the congregation did and the preachers got back to what they were supposed to do. It is not that they would never do anything of this nature, for they had learned from Jesus to do humble things, such as washing feet, but the problem was huge and even as Jesus did not spend all His time and effort washing feet or healing people, but devoted Himself to teaching and preaching, so the apostles/preachers had to do the same.
Questions:
- What are you willing to do to help the church run smoothly?
- Are you part of the problem or do you solve problems?
