Homosexuality ran rampant in the Roman Empire. Yet, Jesus expects us to love all people. That means men should love men, and women should love women, but in a holy way. Is this why John wrote to Gaius these words? 

The Elder, to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.

– 3 John 1 

One man loved another man, but it was in the truth of Jesus Christ, who loved all people, including men, but there was nothing sexual connected with it. 

Love is beautiful, but sadly many people pervert that which is beautiful, so we have to clarify what we mean. Not that we cease expressing ourselves to one another, but we make sure that our communication is always in truth. 

Let us love one another as taught in the New Testament, for then we shall truly be disciples of Christ.
