God would take His people back

Old Testament: Hos 2.16–20

To read the Bible in a year, read Hosea 1–4 on December 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

By Don Ruhl

The Book of Hosea relates the sad story of Israel’s rejection of the Lord their God, and then His rejection of them. However, the Lord continued to love Israel, and He promised:

“And it shall be, in that day,”
Says the LORD,
“That you will call Me ‘My Husband,’
And no longer call Me ‘My Master,’
For I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals,
And they shall be remembered by their name no more.
In that day I will make a covenant for them
With the beasts of the field,
With the birds of the air,
And with the creeping things of the ground.
Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth,
To make them lie down safely.
I will betroth you to Me forever;
Yes, I will betroth you to Me
In righteousness and justice,
In lovingkindness and mercy;
I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness,
And you shall know the LORD.”

– Hosea 2.16–20

When you read the Scriptures from beginning to end, you find that the love of God never ends. His people sin against Him repeatedly, and He punishes them repeatedly, but He also shows His willingness to accept them again repeatedly.

It happens with the world also. The world has been sinning since the Garden of Eden, but thousands of years later, Jesus spoke the words of the Golden Text of the Bible, John 3.16, that God loves the world and gave His Son to win the world back.

Questions:

  • Have you gone back to the Lord?
  • Do you strive to love God as He loves you?
