Old Testament: Gen 2.1
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 1–2 on January 1, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
After Moses recorded what God made in only six days, Moses wrote:
Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.
– Genesis 2.1
Could God have taken less time? Of course. Could he have taken billions of years? Again, of course he could. However, he chose to do it in six days.
Think of the awesomeness of what he did! How long would it take us to make dirt from nothing? We cannot create with nothing. We have to use ingredients for anything that we make. Yet, he merely spoke everything into existence. He did not even have to speak, but that is how he chose to do it.
Also, because our Bibles have been divided up by chapters and verses, someone decided to put a chapter break here. Granted, the narration changes, but Moses still talked about the creation. In what we call chapter 2, Moses went back and detailed some of God’s creation. It is not a different creation account, as some mistakenly allege.
Do not let the chapter and verse divisions break up your thinking, but learn to read the text as though it does not have those divisions.
If you purchase a true Reader’s Bible without the chapter and verse divisions, and without references, notes, and other distractions, you will discover things in Scripture that you never saw before.
Keep your regular study Bible, but get a Reader’s Bible for when you simply read and meditate, and discover what you have been missing.
