When God drove man out of the Garden of Eden

Old Testament: Gen 3.24

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 3–5 on January 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

When Adam and Eve sinned, they not only brought sin into the world, but sin’s close associate, death. Nothing has ever been the same since. Then God did something that has forever changed the world:

So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

– Genesis 3.24

The earth back then must have had beauty beyond our wildest imagination. However, the Bible tells us that, “The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden…” That tells me that the Garden of Eden was something extra special in comparison to the rest of the earth. The earth was wild, but the Garden of Eden was cultivated.

Yet, because of the sin of Adam and Eve, we cannot live there. What would life have been like if we could have lived there and the rest of the earth in its original paradise form?

  • What is your favorite part of earth?
  • Where do you think the Garden of Eden was located?
