Sometimes we overanalyze things. This happens especially in the church with the Scriptures. Even as the human body has great mysteries and complications, only discovered through deep analysis, we figure it must be the same with the Scriptures. 

So rather than being satisfied with simple reading and meditating, we dig for hidden things and try to figure out what we believe are riddles in God’s word. 

The Sadducees did that. They knew of a situation where a woman had married seven brothers, because the first died, and the second took her, and he died, and so on (Matthew 22.23–27). They asked the Lord: 

“Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”

– Matthew 22.28 

They could not imagine a woman married simultaneously to seven husbands, as a man was able to do with wives at one time, so, the Sadducees believed this was evidence that the resurrection of the dead was false doctrine. 

Jesus explained why they erred in their judgment. 

The thing is, they assumed more than what Scripture had said. They overanalyzed Scripture. Moses never intended on addressing life after death by the law of marriage.
