New Testament: Matt 28.6
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 28 on February 15, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Two women went to the tomb of Jesus, but when they arrived the tomb was open, the guards were gone, and an angel sat on the stone that had been in front of the tomb. He told the two Marys:
“He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
– Matthew 28.6
Be those two women for a moment. You go to the tomb, not expecting to see the tomb open, and you especially do not expect to see an angel. Then you hear him say to you that Jesus is gone, because he is risen from the dead. You had either seen or heard of resurrections that he performed, but somehow you did not expect him to rise from the dead, although he had said implicitly and explicitly that he would. Then you peek inside the tomb, as the angel had said to do.
Questions:
- How would you have reacted to the empty tomb and the angel?
- When you go to funerals, do you tell yourself that some day that person shall rise from the dead?
