Jesus must have amazed the people when he revealed to them just how imminent the kingdom was when he said: 

“Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.”

– Mark 9.1 

Either some people living then still live today on the earth or the Kingdom of God arrived with power in the first century. I choose the latter option.
