Old Testament: Deu 9.16
To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 8–10 on March 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
As Moses reviewed with the children of Israel their forty-year wanderings in the wilderness, he reminded them of the time that they had turned away from the Lord and made a calf of gold to worship:
“And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God—had made for yourselves a molded calf! You had turned aside quickly from the way which the LORD had commanded you.”
– Deuteronomy 9.16
The Lord had done something awesome for them, delivering them from Egyptian slavery and doing so in an awesome way with the ten plagues.
However, once they had escaped Egypt, they got impatient and when Moses was gone up in the mountain to be with God for forty days, they wanted a new god to lead them to the Land of Canaan. Therefore, they made a calf of gold to worship, and they believed this calf would lead them to their new homeland.
Let us be sure to keep our eyes on the Lord that we will never run out of patience, but that we will always be ready when he calls us to do something.
Questions:
- Have you gotten impatient, waiting for something good from God?
- What do you do when you get impatient?
